Improve Your Smile with Invisalign in Ottawa

Not long ago, traditional braces were the main option for straightening teeth. Today, Invisalign offers a more discreet way to improve your smile with clear, comfortable aligners designed to fit into your daily life.

At Pretoria Bridge Dental, we create a custom Invisalign plan using a series of aligners that gently move your teeth over time. Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out for eating, brushing, and flossing, which makes it easier to stay on top of your oral hygiene.

Invisalign is especially popular with adults who want a more subtle treatment option. You can work toward a straighter, more confident smile without brackets or wires and without disrupting your routine.

The Advantages of Invisalign vs. At-Home Aligner Programs

Patients often ask how Invisalign compares to at-home aligner programs. While both use clear aligners to move teeth over time, the treatment experience and level of supervision can be very different.

With Invisalign at Pretoria Bridge Dental, your treatment is planned and monitored by a dental team in person. We take accurate digital scans, customize your aligners for a precise fit, and check your progress regularly so we can make adjustments when needed.

At-home aligner programs may limit in-person evaluation and follow-up, which can make it harder to identify issues like gum inflammation, bite concerns, or changes that need clinical attention.

Invisalign Process

Initial Consultation

Booking an initial consultation is the first step to creating your brand-new smile. During your first consultation for your Invisalign treatment, our expert dental team will be there to answer any questions you may have. This initial consultation is essential to make sure our team understands your expectations and pain points regarding your smile.

Treatment Plan Creation

Once your initial consultation is complete and our dental experts understand your needs, we can create a custom Invisalign treatment plan. This custom treatment plan will be highly detailed in order to ensure effective results. With this treatment plan, you will know exactly how to go about inserting and removing your Invisalign aligning trays every day.

Wear Your Aligners

Once your custom teeth aligners are ordered and have arrived, your dentist will do a final check and fitting before you can take them home and start your official treatment plan! You will be given multiple sets of aligners – that way you need fewer appointments and can come in less frequently. We highly recommend staying committed to your custom treatment plan. This includes proper oral hygiene and care-taking techniques.

Follow Up Appointments

Follow-up appointments can be scheduled at your discretion or at the discretion of your dentist depending on your custom treatment plan and how strictly you have been sticking to it. During follow-up appointments, your dentist will thoroughly check your gums, teeth, and mouth to ensure your aligners are functioning properly until you achieve your desired results.

Care Tips

Invisalign is a popular option for patients who want a discreet way to straighten their teeth. Keeping your aligners clean is simple, and good habits will help you stay comfortable and keep your treatment on track.

Clean your aligners daily and make it part of your morning and evening routine. Gently brush them with a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water. You can also use the cleaning method recommended by your dental team.

Additional tips:

  • Avoid abrasive materials or harsh cleaners that can scratch aligners and make them look cloudy

  • Rinse your aligners every time you remove them to reduce bacteria buildup

  • Do not eat or drink anything other than water while wearing aligners to prevent stains and damage

  • Brush and floss before putting aligners back in to help prevent cavities and gum irritation

FAQs

Yes! It is actually required that you sleep with your invisalign. You should only take them off if you are eating, drinking, or brushing your teeth. It is required that you wear them for the maximum amount of time (22 hours per day) possible throughout the day.

Yes, but it depends. An overbite is one of the many dental conditions that invisalign can fix, however it depends on the severity of your overbite. Throughout your invisalign treatment, you will be using various aligners that are designed to fit your teeth at each stage of the treatment. Over time, your overbite will disappear leaving you with a healthier smile.

Invisalign are highly durable by design, but that does not mean it is impossible for them to become damaged. If you notice that your invisalign has been damaged, do not try to repair them yourself! You might end up causing more permanent damage.

If there is a small crack, you can continue wearing them until you are able to come into our clinic for a repair. Just be careful about putting them on and taking them off. Alternatively, if you are close to moving on to your next set of aligners you can call our clinic to see if it’s okay to do so. It can be dangerous to move through your invisalign treatment too quickly.

If your invisalign has been damaged, contact us immediately so that we can find a solution best for you!

Due to the nature of invisalign, it’s important to follow a basic cleaning procedure to deal with the bacteria build up that occurs. It is recommended that you do the following on a daily basis:

  • Brush your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any debris or food particles that have accumulated throughout the day
  • Rinse aligners every night with water or when taking them off and putting them on
  • Keep them in a protective case when not in use

You should be thoroughly cleaning your aligners on a nightly basis, usually when you do your nightly hygiene routine.

The invisalign treatment time can vary depending on the needs of a patient. If only a few teeth require straightening then the treatment time won’t be that long. If there is overcrowding or other dental conditions to treat, it will take longer to correct the issues. The average treatment time for invisalign is between 6-18 months.
