Dr. Michael Watkins received a Bachelor of Science from McGill University, and then continued his studies at McGill to graduate with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1981.
During his studies, Dr. Watkins received the Dr. W. G. Leahy Prize for achievement in Clinical Dentistry throughout the clinical undergraduate program. He then completed his residency year at the prestigious Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.
After moving to Ottawa in 1982, Dr. Watkins began his private practice at the St. Laurent Shopping Centre. He joined his classmate, Dr. Andrew Christie, at the Pretoria Bridge clinic in 1988.
Together, they built a thriving family practice until Dr. Christie’s retirement in 2012. Today, Dr. Watkins and his partner, Dr. Tim Hoeschen, continue to provide caring family dentistry — assisted by their associate, Dr. Serena Wong.
Dr. Watkins’ interest in restorative dentistry continues. Through continuing education in the digital area of dentistry, Dr. Watkins remains constantly aware of new advances in modern dentistry — such as digital photographs, digital X-rays, and CAD / CAM restorations.
Dr. Watkins was awarded Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1995. He has also enjoyed membership in the Bytown Dental Study Club, for more than 25 years. When he’s not at the practice, he enjoys golf, music, and spending time with his family.
